digitalpro's ideal of becoming a HTML5 compliant web development company has presented me with the opportunity to widen my arsenal of design tools.
With the advent of HTML5 and CSS3 comes a gamut of issues being raised and with its implementation as the new web standard looming we, as a 'cutting edge' web development and design company, have stayed on top of the new technologies available.digitalpro’s greatest concern is with the cross-browser/ platform compatibility of the sites we build, as to give consistency and stability to our clients’ web presence.
Amongst the new features of HTML 5 and CSS3 are ‘Flash-like’ effects. In time and with the help of JavaScript this will replace Flash on the Web, a statement which has sparked much debate.
When Macromedia's Flash (now owned by Adobe) was introduced to the web community, it opened up digital design to a plethora of 'never before seen' design options. The simplicity of flash allowed the 'low-level' computer user to create basic functions, interactivity and animations for web use.
Before long there were 'full' Flash sites popping up like magic mushrooms and users across the web were mesmerized by its theatrical effects.
I recently worked on a bird sanctuary’s website, called Intaka Island (Century City). The original site was the product of a Flash web designer and therefore contained a lot of animated features, which had to be translated to HTML5 standards.
As is with any fad, Flash became overused/ misused and will inevitably be substituted by other pragmatic approaches such as HTML5, CSS3 and Javascript.
digitalpro is taking all the necessary steps to make the transition to this new standard as seamless as possible.
